More Jewish

Yes,... your lifestyle may be more Jewish than most, maybe even more Jewish than mine, but so what? It’s Conservative and its just not something I believe in. I concede that you may be closer to G*d than me, you may be more spiritual, you may be a better person but I do not accept the authority of your Rabbis, just as you chose not to accept the authority of mine.

I appreciate bald statements. This reply is from ck over at Jewlicious, #389. I can't think of a worthy comment except to think that this is bigoted.

No one accepts all rabbinic authority. No one can. We all choose some, not others.

But I am troubled by one Jew saying to another 'you live a Jewish life, but so what?' SO WHAT is someone living as a Jew. That's a big WHAT in my book.

For me, klal yisrael means that I am connected to other Jews. Even if they go to other rabbis for decisions. Even if they interpret our shared tradition differently from me. Their concerns are my concerns, whether or not those concerns directly affect my daily life.

Why should I cut myself off from other Jews because I don't 'believe' in Orthodoxy, or Reform? I believe in Jews. That may not be enough to allow us to share a kitchen, but it's good enough for me.

This kind of thing does little more than piss me off (which this did.) We have enough problems without having to cock fight one another to see who's the biggest rooster in the henhouse.

It's like saying you're "more pregnant" or "more female" - what is UP with that? It's "more better" - whatever...

I agree with you & Balabuste whole heartedly. Ahavat Yisra'el is an oft-ignored mitzvah & this statement made to you is divisive. Stand in your truth, Barefoot.
